Manchester United to make a move for the ‘next Lionel Messi’

It seems Manchester United have identified yet another exciting target to sign in the transfer window and he has been dubbed as the ‘next Lionel Messi.’

Legends are hard to replace. Often impossible. They are figures and characters who have achieved the utmost in the game and have won everything imaginable. They become especially hard to replace if the legend in question is arguably one of the best players to have ever played the game in Lionel Messi. The diminutive Argentinian has won every individual award possible and has set records which seems impossible to break. He is an icon of the game. Manchester United experienced the greatness of Lionel Messi in not one but two Champions League final matches in which the Argentinian run riot against one of the best United defences to have ever existed in the history of the club.

Therefore at first glance, the prospect of being dubbed the ‘next Lionel Messi’ for Manchester United’s latest target may have seemed daunting.

There have been many who have come before him and failed. Often the comparison seems like an overused analogy and premature. It places far too much pressure and far too much credit on the players it is heaped upon.

Whether that is the case for current Manchester United target Ezequiel Barco only time will tell. However United may be able to witness Ezequiel Barco’s journey first hand. According to TNT Sport via the Daily Star Manchester United are set to be chasing the young Argentinian winger.

Ezequiel Barco begun his career in Argentina at Independiente where he caught the eye as a mere 17 year old. At 18, he put in some key performances for Argentina’s U20 side at the World Cup.

He made the surprising move to the MLS, despite heavy interest from Europe, signing for Atlanta United and so far the venture has paid dividends for Ezequiel Barco. Quickly he has become a key player for Atlanta and helped them to secure the MLS Cup last season.

He is still clearly a very raw player, but there is a resemblance to Lionel Messi in the way Barco likes to weave through defences. He plays with the same style and elegance. Of course by no means will he become the next Lionel Messi. There may never be another player in his like, however he could be a key player at Old Trafford if he does indeed end up joining Manchester United.
