Manchester United: Solskjaer faces huge injury blow

The Manchester United boss has been dealt with a huge blow with one of his star players set to be sidelined for an extensive period.

When you look at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s spell at Old Trafford it does not strike you as incredibly fortuitous, so far at least. The Manchester United boss has endured some torrid results and he has often been extremely unfortunate with key players being sidelined due to injuries.

From Paul Pogba to Scott McTominay who are both set to be out of action for the upcoming month. Now things seems to be getting even worse for the Norwegian boss.

Harry Maguire, the club’s most stalwart and solid defenders has also picked up an injury and he could face an extended period on the sidelines too. According to the BBC who claim that his absence against Manchester City proves ‘far longer than’ previously suggested by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who claimed the injury is ‘not a long, long term one.’

That could mean even a month or more without the club’s £80m acquisition in the summer and with the Red Devils already short of centre back options things are looking bleak for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Harry Maguire arrived from Leicester City with huge promise and whilst he hasn’t been able to settle all of United’s defensive issues right away he has added some solidity to the club’s shaky defence.

Maguire has been excellent in playing the ball forward and his defensive clearances have been key.

Now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be forced to consider alternatives in his place. Phil Jones was less than impressive coming in for Maguire against Manchester City in the semi-final of the League Cup. The club still has Marcos Rojo but he is rumoured to be on his way out of Old Trafford. Meanwhile Eric Bailly is still recovering from a long term injury he picked up in pre-season.

With the January transfer window well underway, it is possible Solskjaer will look to reinforce his options by bringing in another addition to the back four.
