Manchester United: Solskjaer to move for Real Madrid target
By Bence Bocsak
The Manchester United boss could try to prize away one of Real Madrid’s primary targets in the transfer window in order to solve the Red Devils’ problems.
Never in the club’s illustrious history has one thing been so certain at Manchester United. It can be seen from the stands, from the television, from the boardroom and even from a mere a glance at the club’s current squad.
Manchester United are in desperate need for an infusion to their midfield. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side lacks creativity, flair, energy and cohesiveness in the middle of the park. Often this weakness has been the club’s downfall and it is something Solskjaer needs to fix as soon as possible.
In Amsterdam, playing in the magnificent Johan Cruyff Arena in the strip of Ajax, there is an individual who could be the answer to Solskjaer’s woes.
The Johan Cruyff Arena is situated a half an hour drive away from Amsterdam city centre. It is surrounded by towering office blocks and an artificial football pitch just in front of an image of the club’s legend. Inside it is famous for its retracting roof which can cover the entire stadium if necessary. It is the home of Ajax Amsterdam. One of football’s biggest clubs and a team which is renowned for bringing through mercurial talent one generation after another.
Donny van de Beek is just one of the latest gem to have come through the club’s rich academy system. The 22 year old Dutchman has been at the club since the age of 11 making his way through the ranks. He grew up in Amsterdam and he is currently living his childhood dream playing for his boyhood club.
Van de Beek is adored by the Ajax faithful and rightly so. The versatile midfielder who can play in a box to box role, as a holding midfielder and as a number ten has been one of the club’s best players over the last couple of seasons.
He was instrumental in helping Ajax reach the semi-finals of the Champions League last season and scored some vital goals along the way. Unsurprisingly Real Madrid are purported to be coveting the player.
However so far the Spanish giants’ pursuit has been to no avail and it seems Manchester United could exploit the situation. According to ESPN Manchester United are ‘considering’ a move for Donny van de Beek in the January transfer window.
Van de Beek with his proven versatility and evident talent could be the signing Solskjaer needs to bolster his midfield. The fact that van de Beek has already played for a huge club in Ajax will help him settle in at Old Trafford as he understands the demand needed at such a massive club.
What do you think should Manchester United sign Donny van de Beek?
