Manchester United: Solskjaer edging closer to Barcelona signing
By Bence Bocsak
The Manchester United boss could be on the brink of completing a sensational move in the January transfer window from the Spanish giants.
In Catalonia, at the heart of the city a massive structure towers above the skyscrapers and apartment blocks called the Nou Camp. It is the home of Barcelona. Likewise in Manchester, on the outskirts of the city stands the illustrious theatre of dreams in Old Trafford. It is the home of Manchester United. 860 miles separates the two historic cities, yet they are both home to two of the biggest clubs in world football.
Not many players have played for both Barcelona and Manchester United. But those who have are some of the biggest stars in world football including the likes of Gerard Pique, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrik Larsson.
And it seems yet another star could soon follow in the above named players’ footsteps.
According to Forbes via the Daily Express Barcelona need to ‘raise £107m’ in order to ensure they steer clear of being punished by Financial Fairplay. And the Daily Express reports this might mean that the Red Devils ‘could complete a deal this month’ for Barcelona’s defender Nelson Semedo.
The Portuguese right back has fallen down the pecking order at the Catalan club and he hasn’t been able to make the breakthrough which he would have liked. Ernesto Valverde clearly favours Sergio Roberto over him in the right back position and therefore it would be the perfect opportunity for Barcelona to raise some money in order to avoid Financial Fairplay punishment.
Manchester United on the other hand are desperate for reinforcements and with not a lot of back-up options for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right back, Nelson Semedo could be the ideal candidate.
Nelso Semedo is a speedy attacking full back who is excellent at defending but also clever and explosive going forward. In over two years at Barcelona he has made 65 appearances in La Liga and scored 1 goal.
Now that he has seemingly become available it is almost a no brainer deal for United.
What do you think would Nelson Semedo be a good signing for Manchester United?
