The Manchester United boss looks to have found a perfect candidate to sign in January and he could emulate the club’s former legend in Wayne Rooney.

The legendary status is one which eludes most players who sign for Manchester United. It is something which is reserved only for the very best, the creme de la creme. Wayne Rooney was one of those legendary figures. For over a decade he donned the Manchester United shirt, captained the team leading them to a horde of trophies and scored goal after goal.

His name is in the upper echelon of Manchester United legends. Wayne Rooney is a player who will always be synonymous with the Red Devils. The Old Trafford faithful will cherish and adore him for an eternity.

Therefore at first glance, replacing a player of such magnitude may seem like an impossible task. Rooney after all is a living legend. He embodies Manchester United’s history and ethos.

Yet in Merseyside, donning the dark blue strip of Everton, much like his predecessor, a young striker is following in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney.

Just like the stocky former United captain, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is making a name for himself after breaking through the ranks at Everton.

Despite the Blues’ shocking form this season, the 22 year old has been prolific in front of goal. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is enjoying an especially successful purple patch of late. In his last six Premier League games, Calvert-Lewin has found the back of the net five times.

That form is very much reminiscent of Wayne Rooney back in his Everton days, and Calvert-Levin could follow in Rooney’s footsteps. According to The Sun via the Daily Mail Manchester United are interested in bringing Calvert-Levin to Old Trafford.

If the reports are to be believed United will be signing a very accomplished attacker with an abundance of potential. Who knows Dominic Calvert-Lewin may one day be regarded with the same reverence as Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford.
