Manchester United: Five players who could replace Paul Pogba
By Bence Bocsak
The Manchester United midfielder could be on his way out of the club, here are five excellent candidates who might have what it takes to replace him.
Paul Pogba. Will he stay or will he go? It has been a lingering question around Old Trafford for the past year. The Manchester United midfielder is clearly unsettled at the club and with one of the biggest clubs Real Madrid vying for his services it is difficult to see how United could possibly keep hold of their star player in the long term.
With Paul Pogba missing United’s previous game against Burnley due to mysterious circumstances it seems he could be edging closer and closer to a move away from Old Trafford.
And when Paul Pogba does indeed depart, Manchester United will be left with a gaping void which will need to be filled.
Here are five candidates who could have the potential to fill the void left behind by Paul Pogba and become his replacement.
1. Youri Tielemans
The Belgian midfielder should be the primary candidate to replace Paul Pogba at Old Trafford. Youri Tielemans has all the traits for the perfect all round midfielder and he is in the same ilk as Pogba himself.
Not only that despite being just 22 years of age, Youri Tielemans has played almost 300 senior games and scored 49 goals in the process. The Belgian midfielder has been playing senior first team football since the age of 16 after making the breakthrough at his boyhood club Anderlecht and he now has a wealth of experience.
A short stint in France at Monaco after departing his homeland has led Youri Tielemans to Leicester City. At first it was a loan spell with the Foxes r where Tielemans thoroughly impressed and took the English division by storm. His composure and pace made him able to dictate games for Leicester and become the key pivot in Brendan Rodgers’ side.
In the summer Manchester United were interested in the Belgian but at the time he snubbed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in favour of a return to Leicester. That may have just been a choice made out of loyalty and comfort and the guarantee of first team football.
However if Pogba is to depart the pull of Manchester United may increase with Tielemans knowing he will be first choice at Old Trafford.
