Manchester United: Team of the decade 2010-2019
By Bence Bocsak
Manchester United have endured a turbulent era during the decade about to end. Here are the best players of the era from the club’s ups and downs.
It is hard to describe the 2010-2019 decade for Manchester United. The start of the new decade begun with so much hope. Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge of the club and United had lifted the league title. Another followed and it seems the success was about to continue for years and year until eternity, yet with the departure of the club’s legendary coach Alex Ferguson United descended to a period of instability.
The club have jumped from one manager to another and have suffered some embarrassing results as well as finishes in the league which were unworthy of the Manchester United name.
Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer however it seems the Red Devils are heading into the new decade with hope and there is a belief the Norwegian can turn things around at the club.
Here is Manchester United’s best team of the decade which has just passed.
Goalkeeper: David De Gea
There is absolutely no question mark over who should be in goal for this team. David De Gea arrived at Old Trafford in 2011 with big shoes to fill. The club’s legendary goalkeeper Edwin Van de Saar had just departed the club and it was De Gea who Sir Alex Ferguson had brought in as his replacement.
Whilst in the beginning David De Gea struggled to settle into life in England with some shaky moments, ultimately the Spanish international established himself as one of the best keepers in the world whilst at Manchester United.
David De Gea has won games single handedly for United with his incredible saves and commanding presence at the back.
He has been a reliable and stable presence throughout the turbulent decade which had passed and whilst he has had suitors the likes of Real Madrid David De Gea remained loyal to the club and never made a huge fuss about wanting to leave.
