Manchester United: Five signings Solskjaer could make in January
By Bence Bocsak
3. Timo Werner
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is clearly on the look out for a striker in the January transfer window. Following the departure of Romelu Lukaku in the summer, United have yet to have replaced the Belgian forward adequately.
Whilst Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have done well filling in for the former United striker and Mason Greenwood has also emerged onto the scene, it is clear Manchester United cannot rely on just those options. All three players are still very young and learning their trade, the forward position isn’t even Martial and Rashford’s preferred position, which means the club need a true out and out forward who can ensure United twenty plus goals a season.
Step in Timo Werner. The German international is one of the most prolific strikers of our era. He already has 18 Bundesliga goals in just 17 appearances this season and he is known for scoring goals.
His pace, and his fearsome shooting makes defenders quake in their boots at the prospect of facing Timo Werner. He is truly an outstanding player and the type of player who could function well under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s counter attacking and quick moving system at Manchester United.
The German has been linked with United for the upcoming window and a move should not be ruled out as RB Leipzig have probably conceded to the fact that they will eventually at one point lose their star man.
The only obstacle which might stand in Solskjaer’s way is the fact that Timo Werner is still in the Champions League with RB Leipzig and the German is likely to want to remain in that competition. With United not having the greatest position in the league at the moment, the doubt of reaching the top four may be a blockade in any potential Timo Werner transfer.
