Manchester United continued their good run of form against Burnley with a win to climb up to fifth in the Premier League.

Manchester United have continued their good run of form against Burnley. There were some doubts about the Red Devils heading into the game after their last away performance ended in a torrid 2-0 defeat to bottom of the league Watford.

But the Red Devils despite Solskjaer making four changes from boxing day and Paul Pogba not even on the bench delivered a mature performance in order to secure a victory against a tough and rigid Burnley side.

The likes of Daniel James, Ashley Young and Brandon Williams were particularly impressive in their roles, especially the latter two who had come in after being on the bench for the last two games.

Here are the player ratings for the game:

Goalkeeper: David De Gea – 6

The Spanish stopper had a strong game and after a recent period of uncertainty about his form he seemed back to his best. De Gea made an especially strong save to deny Burnley from long distance in the second half when he was forced to make an acrobatic dive in order to push the ball away from the goal.

Right Back: Ashley Young – 6

It was a strong performance from the Manchester United skipper who returned to action after a considerable time out. The veteran coped well against Dwight McNeil and proved he is still good enough for the club.

Centre Back: Harry Maguire – 6

A solid performance from the English international, he looked composed on the ball and limited Burnley to shots from long distance. He made a vital headed clearance in the end.

Centre Back: Victor Lindelof – 6

Likewise the Swedish international was also solid and was crucial in keeping United composed at the back.

Left Back: Brandon Williams – 7

Mature beyond his years, Brandon Williams was excellent throughout the game and was vital in Manchester United’s excellent defensive performance.

Holding Midfielder: Nemanja Matic – 6

He filled in well for Scott McTominay, kept the ball rolling and broke up attacks when he needed to.

Central Midfielder: Fred – 6

It was a particularly solid performance for the Brazilian who was lively throughout and made some good challenges and passes going forward.

Central Midfield: Andreas Pereira – 6

Was key in United’s creativity in the first half and his touch oozed quality, it was a rare good performance for the Brazilian.

Right Winger: Daniel James – 7

He was a key part of everything United did well. Daniel James probably had his best game in the club’s shirt yet. Burnley just simply couldn’t handle his pace.

Left Winger: Marcus Rashford – 6

Despite looking rusty, he still got his goal at the end of the game and looked comfortable on the ball continuously trying things.

Striker: Anthony Martial – 6

He scored a great goal and he was a constant threat. But he also squandered a huge chance for United which could have made the game far more comfortable.

Substitutes:

Jesse Lingard – 5

Non-existent in the game, Jesse Lingard made no impact coming off the bench.

Luke Shaw – NA

Hardly touched the ball and was only on for the last couple of minutes.
