3. Matic to leave United

The Serbian international and veteran midfielder arrived with high hopes as Jose Mourinho’s first signing at Old Trafford. Matic was undoubtedly one of the best midfielders in the Premier League at the time and crucial in helping Chelsea lift the league title the year prior.

His combative style, excellent distribution and ability to put in strong challenges and break up opposition attacks was exactly what United needed to strengthen their often exposed midfield and provide the steel required to enable defensive rigidity in the team.

Whilst Matic played well in the beginning and he had always put in his best for the team, in recent time his form has dwindled and time seems to be catching up with the Serbian international. No longer is he able to run as much on the pitch or commit and contest as many fifty fifty challenges as before.

His lack of consistency and dwindling form has meant Matic has fallen down the pecking order under Solskjaer and he is no longer the favoured holding midfielder at Manchester United. Instead Solskjaer now tends to deploy the younger and more energetic Scott Mctominay who has been in great form this season and looks to have made Matic’s former role at United his own.

Therefore it is no surprise Matic isn’t entirely content with life at Manchester United right now and according to reports Inter Milan who have already taken Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez from Old Trafford are keen on signing Matic from Manchester also.

A January move is certainly on the cards for the player and should not be ruled out.
