Manchester United: Solskjaer to let wonderkid leave for Barcelona

The Manchester United boss has failed to agree a new contract with the Red Devil’s wonderkid and he is set to leave the club.

Manchester United has always been synonymous with giving youth players a chance and bringing through some of the finest players to grace the football pitch. From David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville to the current generation of Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard the United academy has always been full of bright and talented players.

One such player who showed the same promise and same amount of talent is Angel Gomes. The young midfielder has been tipped to go all the way from a very early age in the academy and Gomes made headlines when he made his debut at just 16 years of age becoming the youngest player to represent Manchester United since Duncan Edwards.

Gomes seemed to have a bright future ahead of him and he impressed in pre-season with the club during the following summer.

In autumn 2017 Gomes captained the England U17 side to World Cup victory in a team that included the likes of Phil Foden, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jadon Sancho, Gomes was tipped as just as good as those three names if not even better.

His talent showed on the pitch. He was quick, skilful and he could find intricate passes with ease. There was no denying his talent.

Yet for some reason two years on Angel Gomes is still yet to make a breakthrough. Despite being under a manager who loves to give youth a chance Gomes is yet to get his opportunity. The United U23s player has done well for the club’s reserves and shone on the couple of times he was given a chance in the first team, yet it has not materialised to anything more and now it seems the young midfielder is looking for pastures new.

According to the Metro Gomes is ‘hinting’ at a departure away from United by ‘removing the club from his Instagram bio’ and has been linked with a move to ‘Barcelona’ which has also been confirmed by Manchester Evening News.

With Gomes yet to sign a new contract his latest move to remove the club from his bio is certainly not a promising sign about his future at United and with clubs like Barcelona interested in his services it will be difficult to stop him from leaving.
