Giving Fred more minutes

Against Leicester, Ole started a midfield pairing of Nemanja Matic and Scott Mctominay. The pair have ample strength and height and shielded the defence well but were lacking in creativity and passing.

Without Paul Pogba, United simply lacks any form of creativity and even though this isn’t a permanent solution, playing Fred could lighten the weight of the burden on Paul.

Fred is a tenacious midfielder and always looks for the progressive pass and within minutes of coming on, created a chance and almost registered an assist.

Playing Fred beside Scotty and Paul in the CAM position might add that extra bit of creativity that United’s midfield has been lacking without reducing the defensive cover for the back four.
