Manchester United: 14 reds in action over international break!
By Ollie Slack
Manchester United’s international stars have packed their bags and headed off across the world to represent their nations for the next seven days. Fourteen of the Red Devils very own talent have dispersed across the globe and here are all the details you need.
Perhaps it will be a welcome break for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer whose side haven’t had a great campaign, results-wise, so far. Things got off to a great start with a 4-0 thumping of Chelsea on the opening day, however, a loss and a draw followed against Crystal Palace at home and Southampton respectively.
Despite the inconsistent form of the first team, Manchester United’s under-23 side have been hitting their straps in the Premier League 2 second division. The young reds sit top of the table and are unbeaten from the four matches they’ve played so far winning three and drawing one.
It’s United’s youngsters who are kicking off proceedings on the international stage this evening too. England under-20’s host Netherlands under-20’s at 7:00 PM this evening local time in the 2019/20 Under-20 Elite League. Angel Gomes and left-back Brandon Williams have been named in the squad and could feature.
Spain are also in action. They travel to Romania hoping to continue their 100% start to qualifying.
Marcos Rojo has been included in the Argentina squad for their two fixtures against Chile and Mexico. The United centre-back has found minutes hard to come by under Solskjaer this campaign but could come up against former teammate Alexis Sanchez who has been allowed to play for Chile despite recently signing for Inter Milan on loan. That match gets underway in Los Angeles at 7:30 PM local time.
Friday’s action
Clearly Solskjaer’s British youngsters have impressed this campaign with three other players involved in international football on Friday night under the age of 23.
Scott McTominay (Scotland), Daniel James and United reserve team prospect Dylan Levitt (both Wales) could all possibly be in Euro 2020 qualifying action.
Scotland will be hoping to go level on points with Russia in Group I if they are victorious at Hampden Park. Ryan Gigg’s Wales side could move up to third in Group E if they defeat Azerbaijan at the Cardiff City Stadium (both 7:45 PM local time).
