Manchester United right to turn away Paulo Dybala if attitude not right!

Manchester United’s proposed move for Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala is allegedly off after the club couldn’t meet his wage demands. Here’s why it’s the right call for the club to pull out.

The transfer window is nearing a close but that isn’t stopping Manchester United being linked with a number of top talents across the continent.

It looks as though Harry Maguire will complete his move to United from Leicester City after both clubs appear to have finally agreed on a fee for the England international. However, the rumours keep on rumbling.

Romelu Lukaku‘s name has been a prominent one this window and after posting a few cryptic images on social media it does appear that he will become the third first-team player to depart since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was given the job back in March.

It was when Lukaku was being linked to Italian giants Juventus that Paulo Dybala‘s name cropped up. It was a shock to many United fans who hadn’t expected to be getting a Juventus player in exchange for Lukaku.

As you can imagine, Twitter blew up and Man Utd’s fan base was quite rightly very excited about the Argentine possibly signing for the club given the player’s pedigree and the number of credible sources making the claim.

However, as time has moved on, there has been an increasing suspicion that Dybala isn’t overly keen on leaving Juventus and it is only if Maurizio Sarri doesn’t want him that he will then be forced to depart.

Straight away this should send alarm bells to United. They’ve already been scarred in the past by players who have reluctantly joined the club wishing they had stayed or gone elsewhere. The list is not a very long one but a name who comes to mind fairly recently was Angel Di Maria in 2014. Another Argentine who this time wanted a move to PSG but ended up joining Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford. After a year, he left and signed for, you guessed it, PSG.

If Paulo Dybala is not 100% committed to joining the club, Solskjaer and Ed Woodward are right to pull the plug on negotiations. The Norwegian has also made it clear in the past he is only interested in players who want to wear the jersey with immense pride.

"“We’ve touched upon it [before], we’ve tried to educate our players and our kids to be proper people. In my years, the best players have always been the best people.“You have to have that value system – do you say that? A certain kind of attitude about you to make a Manchester United player.” [Man Utd]"

With a managers life expectancy in a job ever decreasing, they have to now secure players who are always going to stand by them. No matter how tough the season gets they need their group to battle through.

Especially at United. The performances at the club have been below par for the majority of the past six years since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. To build the club back up to the dynasty it once was on the pitch, Solskjaer needs players who believe in him and the club, irrespective of ability.

So, after what can only be described as a fling between United and Dybala, according to multiple reports, the deal is now off.

Where do they turn to next? Bruno Fernandes? Surely they tried him before Dybala and if they didn’t will he want to be their second choice? Perhaps Solskjaer viewed Dybala as a luxury signing and is still happy with the young crop coming through at United. Only time will tell.
