Goodbye, Romelu Lukaku. Manchester United won’t miss you
By Ali Akbar
Romelu Lukaku is reportedly set to join Inter Milan this summer. Here’s why Manchester United won’t miss the striker.
When Romelu Lukaku joined Manchester United from Everton for £75million in 2017, they thought they were gaining a player on the verge of being world class.
The striker had just finished the Premier League season with 25 goals, coming second in the race for the golden boot to Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane – although Lukaku was playing for a much smaller club.
However, the Belgium international has in fact regressed since moving to Old Trafford, managing just 16 goals in the Premier League in his first season for the Red Devils and a measly 12 goals in the following campaign.
Now it is being reported that Lukaku is looking for a move to the Serie A this summer, with Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan emerging as the Italian club most eager to sign him.
According to Football Italia, United want at least £60million for their underperforming number nine. Although this would be a loss of £15million on their initial fee to Everton, this would be a great deal on our part nonetheless.
Given his lack of progress, it wouldn’t be surprising if Lukaku had yet another poor season in Manchester. If United waited until next summer to offload him, no club would be willing to pay anywhere near £60million for the Belgian.

If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did decide to sell him this summer, United wouldn’t even need to sign another striker. The manager already has Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez and Mason Greenwood to choose from to play up top next season.
Inter would be doing us a favour by taking Lukaku off our hands, as Rashford would finally have the chance to play week in and week out as United’s main man – which fans have wanted to see for years now.
Furthermore, youngster Greenwood would get more game time coming off the bench in the Premier League and starting in cup games – which will be immensely beneficial for his development.
So, I’d urge Solskjaer to let Lukaku leave United for Inter right away, as both parties would be better off if they went their separate ways.
