Matthijs de Ligt issues update amid Manchester United interest

Manchester United transfer target Matthijs de Ligt recently made comments about his future which hint that he is indeed considering a move away from Ajax this summer.
The summer transfer window for Premier League has only been open for a couple of weeks and yet Manchester United are already in embroiled in a transfer saga.
This began when reports emerged claiming that United are interested in signing centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, who had just come to the end of an incredible season with Ajax.
The 19-year-old caught the attention of clubs throughout Europe with his exceptional defensive performances this season, which led him to be crowned Ajax captain – an extraordinary feat for such a young player.
Barcelona had seemed the club most likely to sign de Ligt among those interested, as the Spanish giants have a strong relationship with the Dutch side and had already signed another one of their players earlier in the season, Frenkie de Jong.
However, the Red Devils were given a boost when it was reported that, having spent €75million on de Jong, Barcelona are not keen on forking out a similar transfer fee on de Ligt, and are considering alternatives.
Nevertheless, no official reports have been made regarding any contact from either United or Barcelona for the Ajax man, although both clubs remain heavily linked with him.

Speaking to RTL Boulevard, de Ligt had this to say about the recent rumours linking him to the Premier League and La Liga clubs:
"“I am very excited about what the nearest future may bring me, but I am also calm, I see it as a challenge, that is the most important thing.“There are several options, what I do is to see which is the best option, it seems logical that one option is better than the other.”"
It appears that the defender is indeed weighing his options right now, suggesting that there are truths to the recent rumours.

But since it is still early doors in the transfer window, fans shouldn’t expect a decision to be made regarding de Ligt’s any time soon.
