Manchester United steal rivals defender after signing pre-contact agreement!

Manchester United Women have signed Abbie McManus from rivals Manchester City ahead of the 2019/20 FA Women’s Super League season.
Manchester City full-back Abbie McManus has made her “dream” move to rivals Manchester United in time for the 2019/20 season.
The defender was part of a very strong City defence last season which conceded just the 17 goals in the Women’s Super League and kept eight clean sheets in their 20 matches.
McManus first signed for Manchester City in 2009 but spent some time away with Sheffield United ladies in 2013. She returned to Manchester in 2013 when City became a professional women’s football club.
Since then it has been nothing but success for herself and her teammates, having helped the club to four domestic cups and two Women’s Super League crowns. McManus also was twice, a game away, from the playing in the Champions League final, the pinnacle for any club team.
But, despite a staggering 12 years, 111 appearances and three goals with the Citizens, as well as being a major part of their rise to the top of the women’s game, she has decided to cut her ties with them.
The news was announced that McManus had joined Manchester United on the @ManUtdWomen twitter account yesterday afternoon at 2 PM (BST).
McManus commented on the news soon after claiming she was, “Over the moon” to join the club. She also mentioned that it has always been a childhood dream of hers to play for United, something City fans will not like hearing.

Something else McManus will be excited for is the Women’s World Cup in France, which starts on June the 7th. The now-United defender was included in England’s 23-woman squad picked by manager and former-Red Devil himself, Phil Neville.
Manchester United defender and captain Alex Greenwood has also been selected for the final squad to travel across the channel. Greenwood had a tremendous season for the Red Devils, leading her side to Women’s Championship glory in their first season as a club.
The Lionesses have to wait a couple of days until they get their tournament underway however, they take on Scotland on June the 9th in Nice. Neville, McManus, Greenwood and the rest of the team will be hoping for more silverware this year, after already picking up the SheBelieves Cup in March.
