Manchester United: Antoine Griezmann rumours have started again. Yawn
By Ali Akbar
Reports suggest that Manchester United have reignited their interest in Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann. Can these news outlets please give it a rest already?
Remember that transfer window when it seemed almost certain that Antoine Griezmann was going to sign for Manchester United? What a time to be alive!
The Red Devils had just won the 2017 Europa League title, securing their place in next season’s Champions League, and Griezmann himself appeared to hint that he was planning on a move to Old Trafford in a television appearance.
Did it happen in the end? No, of course not. But that hasn’t stopped every media outlet under the sun from linking the striker with United in every subsequent transfer window.
This summer is no different, as a report in The Independent claims that the club have made contact with Griezmann just as Barcelona are beginning to have second thoughts on signing him themselves.

Barca have reportedly been interested in the France international for some time now, but this report suggests that they have changed their minds all of a sudden, meaning that Griezmann is ripe for the taking by United. Give me a break.
The resurfacing of these Griezmann to United rumours is clearly a ploy to get clicks from fans hoping that their dream signing becomes a reality. I’m here to tell you that there is no way this is ever going to happen.
The 28-year-old is practically on a flight to Camp Nou as we speak. There is no way that Barca would change their minds about signing him now. They have the funds to meet whatever his buyout clause is and desperately need somebody to take the burden off of Lionel Messi in attack.
Furthermore, there is no way that Griezmann himself would snub Barcelona for United. The former have just won the La Liga title and are practically guaranteed to play in the Champions League each season. United meanwhile finished 6th in the Premier League and will be playing in the Europa League next season. Why on earth would Griezmann choose to play for the latter?
So don’t get your hopes up, Manchester United fans. It’s very unlikely that we will be signing any world-class players this summer, let alone Antoine Griezmann.
