What positions do Manchester United need to strengthen in and WHO?

First choice: Declan Rice; another option: Bruno Fernandes

West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice has been tremendous this season. His stellar performances have been rewarded with a call up to the England squad where he had no trouble fitting in.

Joining Manchester United, sharing the workload with Nemanja Matic and learning from the Serbian would be a great chance for him to settle at the club before he takes centre stage and stakes his claim to be of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

Rather than put “second choice”, another midfielder option would be Bruno Fernandes. As Ander Herrera ages, he could quite easily fill the void left by Nemanja Matic leaving a gap for this exciting young Portuguese international.

My preference would be to go straight for Declan Rice. I imagine United would face competition from City and a couple of other top European clubs, but he is the ideal candidate to become the Red Devils next long-term central defensive custodian.
