SUGGESTED STARTING XIs: Manchester United take on Wolves looking to book place at Wembley

Manchester United travel to Wolves today hoping to make it into the last four of the FA Cup and book their place at Wembley for the semi finals. But after Solskjaer’s first domestic defeat last week against Arsenal, which players can respond?

At this stage in the competition, I think you have to play your strongest team. David de Gea is United’s best keeper, irrespective of last weeks mishap. Sergio Romero has been terrific so far in the clubs domestic completions but I doubt that is any consolation for him.

Three of Solskjaer’s first choice defenders are available, but with Ashley Young suspended Diogo Dalot should be trusted at right-back.

Wolves’ strengths lie in central midfield with João Moutinho and Rúben Neves. Therefore, I feel United should try and pack the central areas and play with a diamond. Scott McTominay was unlucky to miss out against Arsenal and Matic didn’t look match sharp, so for me, in comes the Scottish international.

Both Dalot and Shaw are naturally attakcing so will find no problem in providing the width for Solskjaer’s men.

Playing the diamond also benefits United’s attacking options in this game. With Romelu Lukaku out, it became clear from early on in the week that Solskjaer would play a front two of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. Having Paul Pogba in behind these two also provides a great option on the counter-attack.

Dalot’s delivery has been much better than Young’s in recent games, so he deserves to start at right-back against Wolves, even though the Englishman is suspended.

Matic looked rusty playing holding midfield against Arsenal and doesn’t look like he has the legs to keep up. McTominay was doing a fine job when the Serbian was out injured anyway and should return to his post once again.

Wolves will certainly dominate possession at Molineux, so United will have to play on the counter, something they have done very well since Solskjaer has come in. For this reason, United should bring in Chong to create a pacey front three alongside Martial and Rashford.
