SUGGESTED STARTING XIs: Manchester United host Liverpool at Old Trafford

Manchester United host Liverpool at Old Trafford today in the biggest game in English football. How will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fare in his first fixture against the great rivals as manager? Well, we’ve taken some of the work of his plate and picked our suggested starting XI’s for him!

This back four managed to keep a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge of all places so I doubt Solskjaer will change things around.

Pogba and Herrera were both phenomenal against Chelsea and will certainly be our most important players against Liverpool.

Matic has looked rusty in recent games, but since we don’t have an adequate replacement, he’ll likely start alongside them.

Lukaku could start this game on the right wing as he did against Arsenal to pin Liverpool left-back Robertson in his own half.

Martial should be fit to play on Sunday so hopefully, he’ll start on the other side of Rashford, as we know he loves a goal against Liverpool.

Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba

It’s difficult to change the starting lineup from the team that brilliantly dismantled Chelsea last Monday. But if star players are fit you may have to make exceptions.

Despite that, there are no changes in my back five and I would say, providing they are fit, it’s United’s strongest. Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof were both superb against the Blues and they have a great understanding.

There is a worry that Nemanja Matic isn’t fit purely based on the fact he did not arrive at the Lowry Hotel which is where the players usually meet prior to a matchday. However, let’s hope he is because I’m not sure who is capable enough to replace him.

Going on the rumours that Lingard is fit and Martial isn’t, bringing in the Englishman for Romelu Lukaku is the only change I would make from Monday’s FA Cup win. Mata keeps his place as he is a lot tidier in possession which may be needed against Liverpool’s high press.
