Ole Gunnar Solskjaer proves tactical worth once again

One of the biggest concerns, when Solskjaer was appointed the caretaker manager of Manchester United, was whether or not he would be tactically astute enough at the top level. Having failed at Cardiff City and only tasted success in the Eliteserien with Molde, fans wondered if he had the skill set to compete against more vastly experienced managers in the Premier League.

The 13 matches Solskjaer has been in charge, have provided fans with a perfect demonstration of how the Norwegian wants to set his teams up. He’s steamrolled teams such as Cardiff, Fulham and Bournemouth. He’s been able to grind out wins like Newcastle and Leicester. And also we’ve seen the more in-depth tactical affairs against Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea.

It is in these three matches that excited me. They prove Solskjaer has the tactical nouse to outsmart his opposing number. How much input comes from the other coaches in Mike Phelan, Michael Carrick, Kieran McKenna, et al, I don’t know. However, as a team, they are delivering watchable performances with results.
