Marcus Rashford has a chance to prove he’s better than Kylian Mbappe when Manchester United face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League at Old Trafford.
If you had asked me six months ago who was a better player, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford or Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe, I would have easily chosen the latter.
Mbappe had finished the 2017/18 season with 13 goals and 7 assists in Ligue 1 and had just won the World Cup with France in the summer.
Rashford, on the other hand, had scored just 7 goals and registered 5 assists in the Premier League over the same period and finished the season with no trophies.
However, now that Jose Mourinho has been sacked and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken over as caretaker manager, Rashford looks an entirely different beast.
Indeed, the 21-year-old has netted six times in his last eight games under Solskjaer – an elite goals-to-game ratio worthy of Europe’s very best.
Now Rashford has a chance to prove his quality on the biggest stage when PSG travel to Old Trafford to face the Red Devils in the Champions League round of 16.
The game won’t be easy, even if the Red and Blues are without the likes of Neymar and Edinson Cavani, as Mbappe is dangerous enough on his own to cause mayhem for United’s defence if they’re not careful.
Nevertheless, the exclusion of PSG’s other two star forwards means that the Tuesday night clash will be the Rashford vs Mbappe show – and I’m confident that the former is going to come out on top come the end of the 90 minutes.
Should Rashford get a goal, an assist or both against the Parisians, it will be safe to say that United have a world-beater on their hands…
You can catch Manchester United vs Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday 12th February at 20:00 GMT.
