Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should get the permanent managerial job at Manchester United if he wins the FA Cup

An FA Cup win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be enough to secure him the permanent managerial role at Manchester United next season.

Manchester United look unrecognisable under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from how they did earlier in the season when Jose Mourinho was at the helm.

When the Portuguese was sacked in December, he left the Red Devils in 6th place in the Premier League table with a goal difference of just zero after the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

He had also knocked us out of a cup competition already, after Championship side Derby County beat us in the League Cup at Old Trafford.

On the other hand, since Solskjaer took over as caretaker manager, United have gone on an unbeaten run consisting of wins against Cardiff CityHuddersfield Town, Bournemouth, Newcastle United, ReadingTottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Yes, United are still in 6th place – but we’ve closed the distance between us and fourth-placed Chelsea considerably, and we are ever-closer to winning the FA Cup.

However, the Red Devils will first need to get past Unai Emery’s Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the FA Cup Fourth Round.

It won’t be easy. But should Solskjaer get his eighth win in a row on Friday, he needs to be considered a serious candidate for the permanent managerial role come next season.

Indeed, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino – who is the favourite to take over at Old Trafford in the summer – has never won a single trophy as a manager.

How can we seriously consider Pochettino as a contender at the biggest club in the world if he hasn’t won any silverware in his 10-year-managerial career – especially when Solskjaer has?

The Norweigan has won multiple trophies at Molde FK, and if he wins a trophy in his first six months at United, how can we replace him with someone who hasn’t done so in five years at Spurs?

Again, we’ll still have to wait and see if the FA Cup dream becomes a reality. But if it does, there’s only one name in my mind who should be managing Manchester United next season: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
