Ahead of Manchester United’s match against Arsenal tonight, we sat down with our friends over at Saints Marching to discuss United’s 2-2 draw against Southampton on Saturday. Site expert Marc Walker, provided the answers to our 5Q Review.
Question 1
What were your thoughts coming into the match against a Manchester United side you must have been confident about getting a result out of?
@SaintSparky96 (Saints Marching): Southampton had missed an ideal opportunity to get a vital win the week before against Fulham so facing United this week wasn’t ideal. However, we had seen from afar that United hadn’t had the best of seasons and their defensive record was poor so there was a better possibility of us getting something from the game.
Question 2
Two-nil up, what’s going through your mind?
@SaintSparky96 (Saints Marching): I and many Saints fans couldn’t quite believe the start we made to the game. Stuart Armstrong is in great form so him scoring wasn’t such a surprise, but then Cedric, who is normally the last person you’d expect to be standing over a free-kick, bent it in the top corner! With it being so early though, there was always the chance that Saints would give up the lead like they normally do.
Question 3
At 2-2 were you thinking that it was game over and United would come out 2nd half all guns blazing?
@SaintSparky96 (Saints Marching): It was frustrating to see United get back into the game relatively easily but Marcus Rashford was excellent in his role for the two goals. There was always that fear that we would eventually lose the game late on, but it was actually a pretty solid performance from Saints in the second half and the game was definitely not as open after half-time.
Question 4
From outside looking in, what do you make of Paul Pogba? Mourinho seemed to criticise his display.
Pogba certainly has a lot of self-confidence and has shown brilliant ability at times. However, we don’t see that consistently enough and he clearly doesn’t get on well with Mourinho. I don’t like how Mourinho publicly slates his players sometimes though so perhaps he is the main problem. During the match, it was quite strange to see Pogba make the mistakes he did and Mario Lemina seemed to have him under control at all times.
Question 5
Who was your Southampton MOTM? And your Manchester United MOTM?
@SaintSparky96 (Saints Marching): For Saints, I think Lemina was fantastic and dominated the midfield which was vitally important against so much United quality.
For United, Rashford was crucial in getting them back in the game with two assists and it was easy to see that the Saints defence was scared of him running at them. As an England fan, I feel frustrated for Rashford as he hasn’t been able to nail down a consistent starting spot and seems to be battling constantly with Martial.
