6 players Manchester United and Jose Mourinho should look to sign in the January transfer window
Manchester United may have just turned a corner after Saturday’s thrilling victory, however, to compete with the league favourites they need to strengthen. Here I discuss the six targets I think Jose Mourinho should chase in January.
After the thrilling second-half comeback against Newcastle, Jose Mourinho seems to have found the backing of the fans and the board at least for the short term. We saw a completely different attitude in the tale of the contrasting halves which impressed the manager a great deal. The splendid display was a morale booster for the Manchester United fans who were devastated after back to back dismal performances. We do hope that this victory acts as a catalyst for greater things to come.
With the January window not far off, it is crucial for the club to sign some world class players to be right up there with the elite. Here, we look at 6 players the club should try signing to strengthen its squad and regain themselves as serious title contenders.
6. Milan Skriniar ( Internazionale)
The young Slovakian centre back is reportedly one of the 2 defensive targets for Jose Mourinho to strengthen the defence which has been poor this season. He rose to fame with Sampdoria as he played a vital role for Marco Giampaolo’s side as he finished the season as the youngest defender to have made at least 35 appearances in Serie A.
Škriniar got better and better as he became the most expensive Slovak player of all time as he penned a 5-year contract with fellow Italian side Internazionale. The defender concluded the 2017-17 season by being ever present in the back line of as he played every single minute as Inter finished 4th in the league as they returned to the UEFA Champions League after six years.
Škriniar has been a strong tackler averaging 2.3 tackles per game in the 2017-18 season and a quick clearer of the ball. Occasionally he chips in with the odd goal as he’s a major aerial threat from set pieces. Naturally a centre-back he can also be deployed as a defensive midfielder, where he produced some outstanding performances with the u-21 Slovak side.
He might be a great addition to the squad as an ever-present option in the centre of the backline. He has already kept one of the best strikers in the Premier League at bay when he faced Harry Kane in the UEFA Champions League. He has often been labelled as a ‘leader on and off the pitch’ by his former youth manager. Manchester United are in need of someone who can lead the team as the promising centre-back might just be the man, Mourinho would like to bring to Old Trafford.
