Defence
Ashley Young – 7
Although partially at fault for the first goal, the captain managed to redeem himself in the second half with a wonderful cross to Alexis Sanchez to assist his 90th-minute winner.
We’d still prefer to see our young new signing Diogo Dalot given a run in the Premier League, but for now, Young provides us with much-needed width on the right flank.
Chris Smalling – 6
Smalling continues to be a solid option at centre back this season. However, we cannot ignore the fact that he was nowhere to be seen in either of Newcastle’s goals.
He did manage to keep a clean sheet in the second half though, and we’d still like to see him keep his place in United’s upcoming fixture against Chelsea.
Eric Bailly – 4
The Ivory Coast international was taken off just 19 minutes into the first half when they were trailing 2-0. Although he can’t directly be blamed for either of the 2 goals, he still looks like a shadow of the player he was last season, and we don’t expect to see him start against Chelsea.
Luke Shaw – 6
Another positive performance by Shaw ensures that he continues to be our first-choice left-back. Although he did not directly contribute towards any goals, he did manage to provide good cover on the left-hand side to prevent any counterattacks from spoiling our day.
