Defenders
Antonio Valencia – 7
A better performance from the skipper this week who bombed forward in the first half and lined up really well with Jesse Lingard down the right. Always provided an out ball when hugging the right touchline.
Chris Smalling – 7.5
Smalling proved once again why he is best to handle the big and physical front men. Chris Wood didn’t get a sniff all match apart from one header where he rose above the former Fulham international. Otherwise, the ball never stuck to the Kiwi as Smalling proved to be too good.
Victor Lindelof – 7
Despite a shaky cameo against Spurs the week before, Lindelof responded in the perfect way against Burnley, mistake free. He seems to be at his best alongside Smalling, in total 17 of his 21 Premier League appearances have been alongside the Englishman.
Did his part well in screening Chris Wood and also played out from the back, finding Jesse Lingard and Alexis Sanchez in pockets of space too.
Luke Shaw – 8.5
Not my MOTM this week, but can’t find many faults with his performance once again.
His attacking play down the left is so crucial in allowing more space and freedom for Alexis Sanchez further in-field. Last season the Chilean would have had to do both the wide play and coming inside with Ashley Young not always being the quickest to catch up.
Tested more in the second half defensively and proved he is more than capable too.
