PLAYER RATINGS: One man scores 4 but the rest none lower than 7 as Manchester United cruise past Burnely
By Ollie Slack
The players needed to stand up and be counted for against Burnley especially after a week where their manager Jose Mourinho had taken most of the flak. Luckily for him, they did, so we rated their performances.
As Mourinho and I have said in detail since the match, the performance at Turf Moor was one of the most comprehensive since the former Chelsea boss arrived at Old Trafford in June 2016.
It’s difficult to think of a player in the match who didn’t seem 100% focussed and driven to make amends for the previous two performances. Every one of the 14 players who took part, bar one who showed for the first time in his career a touch of petulance, played exactly under Mourinho’s instructions.
At a time when they most needed to as well. Hopefully, the side will be able to continue to replicate that performance on a more consistent basis. But the international break has come at the right time for Manchester United. Despite the season only being three weeks old, I’m knackered!
Goalkeeper
David De Gea – 7
Didn’t have a lot to do all game but produced a decent save-like-punch to deny Burnley pulling a goal back towards the end of the second half.
