Marcus Rashford joins an elite club of Manchester United legends after being handed number 10 shirt

Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney is a club legend and now the most famous player to don the number 10 shirt. He scored 253 goals in 559 games. Ironically, Marcus Rashford looked up to Rooney as a youngster growing up dreaming to play for the Red Devils.
There are a number of remarkable similarities between the two as well. Rooney burst onto the scene in the Premier League at the age of 16, Rashford was 18. Both stars announced themselves at Old Trafford with goals in a top European competition, Rashford a brace against FC Midtjylland and Rooney one better against Fenerbache.

Rooney broke Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record in his last season at the club, a year when Rashford was able to play alongside his idol at Manchester United. Therefore it seems fitting that a boy with such promise, talent and humility will attempt to write his own history in a shirt which so many have succeeded in, no more so than Rooney himself.
