After losing the first against them in the group stage, he faced them again this time in the third-place play-off.

Once again Jones was steady in the game but unfortunately made one mistake in the 82nd minute. He found himself caught in between trying to play the offside trap and making sure Hazard doesn’t escape his grasp. The ball was slipped past him by De Bruyne and Hazard got away making it 2-0 and sealing the win.

Overall Jones had an ok tournament. He would have liked to play some more minutes but wouldn’t have been too disappointed with his performances in the games he played.

Sitting just in front of the back for Brazil’s wide players found it difficult to come inside and link up. Coutinho, Neymar and Jesus all tried to come inside but were snuffed out by Fellaini and co.

Against France in the semi-final, Fellaini struggled to have the same impact. France bypassed the midfielder with their counter-attacking, skill, pace and power.
