Fred was passed fit for the second game but was not needed. Brazil progressed into the quarter-finals eventually losing to Belgium. In that match, defensive midfielder Casemiro was suspended and still, Fred was not selected. Manchester City’s Fernandinho chosen ahead of him.

Despite the lack of football over the summer, Fred will be raring to go come the start of the Premier League season as he joins up with his new teammates.
