Jesse Lingard – 8

One of Manchester United’s best performers last season continued his form with the national team on the biggest stage of them all. Lingard has been one of England’s standout players this World Cup.

Gareth Southgate has shown a lot of faith in the 25-year old ever since he worked with him in the U21 set-up. And now the England manager has found a system which suits Lingard’s best qualities down to the ground.

With footballing full-backs, Lingard is able to make numerous runs in behind the defence knowing he will be found by either Trippier or Young. Proving to be a threat in every game, Lingard will be slightly disappointed with his goal tally of one as he came into the tournament in such prolific goalscoring form.

However, his stunning goal against Panama in England’s 6-1 win will always live long in the memory.
