However, he came back against Japan hungry to score again. He bullied the Japanese defence throughout the first half and was so determined to score he sometimes chose the wrong decision to shoot.

But when it mattered most, Lukaku was cleverer than the rest. Belgium had pulled the game back to 2-2 and in searching for a winner Japan left themselves exposed at the back following a corner. Lukaku demonstrated great movement to create space for Munier, before dummying the ball for Chadli to tap home.
