It is the Quarterfinal stage of the World Cup and three Manchester United players have exited the competition. But where does that leave the remaining nine in the latest player rankings?
David De Gea (Spain), Marcos Rojo (Argentina) and Nemanja Matic (Serbia) are the first three United stars to have been knocked out of the World Cup.
Therefore their positions in the player rankings are now out of their control. They all can still move up and down the leaderboard, but only due to the performance of a player still in the competition.
N/A: Fred
Unfortunately, Manchester United’s latest signing Fred has yet to step onto the pitch in Russia.
The Brazilian midfielder faces stiff competition in his position, however, Real Madrid’s Casimero is banned for the Quarterfinal so Fred may eventually get some game time.
Manchester United World Cup player rankings: 11th & 10th
Macros Rojo and David De Gea remain the bottom two respectively after their Last 16 exits. Both of them will now have to see how their Manchester United colleagues perform before finding out their final rank.
Rojo had another poor performance in the Last 16. The centre-half kept his place after scoring the winner to take Argentina through in the final group game. But, Argentina’s Last 16 tie against France was one to forget for Rojo.
Kylian Mbappe terrorised him. Culminating in Rojo hauling Mbappe to the ground to give away a penalty putting France 1-0 up. The embarrassment continued. So much that the Argentine coach subbed Rojo off at halftime.
Spain really struggled to create any opportunities against a dogged Russian side. The match went to penalties and De Gea had a chance to rescue his tournament.
However, the Manchester United shot-stopper failed to save a single one of Russia’s penalties. The hosts marched on as the 2010 champions crashed out.
