Manchester United: World Cup matchday 1 player rankings – Which United star sits on top?!
By Ollie Slack
1. Romelu Lukaku
After bagging a brace in Belgium’s 3-0 opening win against Panama on Monday, Lukaku sits top of the Manchester United World Cup player rankings. Panama may turn out to be nothing special but as we are only one game into the tournament we have to judge each performance individually on its merits.
The big Belgian was in great form last season as he became Manchester United’s top goalscorer and he continued that form into this summer’s tournament.
Lukaku was a threat in the first half without being involved too much in the game. His hold up play was much improved from what we saw at times last season but the striker had no real chances to test Panama keeper Jaime Penedo. However, in the second half, Lukaku had some chances and sure did he take them.
