8. David De Gea
The world’s best keeper made a major error on the world stage last Friday. Usually so composed and concentrated throughout a match, De Gea suffered a moment of madness. Moments before the half-time whistle with the game finely poised at 1-1, Cristiano Ronaldo hit a tame left-footed shot towards goal. De Gea didn’t seem set, worrying about a defender to his left and to everyone’s amazement he parried the ball behind him into the bottom left corner.
De Gea goes through long periods for Manchester United where he is just a spectator. But when called into action he delivers and it’s those concentration levels that have made him stand out these last few years. However, when his nation needed it most, the Spaniard failed to deliver.
It was a crucial moment too. If the ball doesn’t go in, both teams go in at half-time level pegging and you expect Spain to dominate the second half. But, instead, Ronaldo and co got a massive boost and went on to clinch a crucial 3-3 draw.
