In the last fixture of the Premier League season, Manchester United square off against Watford FC.

After a disappointing draw with West Ham United, Manchester United look to earn a win for the first time in two matches. United fell to Brighton and drew to West Ham. However, the Red Devils already secured a second place finish. So, as the season winds down, three points come as nonessential for United.

If this season proves anything, a team’s place in the table means nothing. Last placed West Brom handed United a loss. Furthermore, Brighton did as well. Given the outcomes of those two matches, surely Manchester United learned not to underestimate a team.

Watford is in thirteenth place in the Premier League table, and United could hand them a loss. It all depends on how United perceive their opponents. Manchester United have a strong chance to dominate possession of the ball. They cannot allow Watford to advance into United’s half because the Red Devils have a tendency to absorb offensive pressure.

This season, United proved that they defeat the teams that would prove difficult to best, and they lose to the teams they deserve to beat. On the other hand, Watford look to stand up to United, as they just secured as second place finish.

What players will prove valuable in the Watford match?

As always, David de Gea is a game changer. The team of the season goalkeeper is enjoying perhaps the best season of his life. He has made numerous incredible saves, and he deserves all the honors he earned this season. From the West Ham draw, the Spanish goalkeeper clinched the golden glove award for most shutouts in a single season.

Also, if Jesse Lingard gets the start, he will be valuable in the attack. With Romelu Lukaku out due to injury, Manchester United needs an offensive presence, and they lacked that during the West Ham match. Lingard had a few good chances on goal, and hopefully the young midfielder can bring that into the Watford match.

In addition, Eric Bailly would prove a valuable player in any defense, but his team is not in the World Cup, so there is a possibility that he may not make an appearance for Manchester United.

In the end, this match is not an essential fixture in the season. Manchester United cannot fall out of the top four, as they have a firm grip on second place. Watford may stand up to the Red Devils, but it’s up to Jose Mourinho and his men to stand up to a mid table team such as Watford. Can Manchester United end their season on a high note?
