Manchester United: Jose Mourinho open to offers on all but 7 players this summer transfer window

After the shock defeat to West Bromwich Albion, Jose Mourinho is not happy with some of his players. And the Manchester United boss is reportedly ready to listen to offers for the majority of his squad.

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney reported that Jose Mourinho is fed up with a number of his players’ attitudes following the defeat to West Brom and is ready to let many of them leave. Meaning only a small number of his squad will be safe from the chop.

He only has the complete trust of seven players and would be open to offers of any player other than these seven.

Starting from front to back they are, David De Gea, Ashley Young, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku. I would also add the skipper, Antonio Valencia to that list.

Alexis Sanchez has only impressed in a handful of names since arriving from Arsenal in January, but the feeling from Mourinho is that we will see the best of him next season. This will be due to the Chilean having a full pre-season with the club and settling in further.

What has caused Mourinho to potentially act so angrily?

Mood swings have been common of Mourinho’s time at Old Trafford. However, this current one perhaps could have the most ruthless consequences to date.

The performance against West Brom was a disgrace. Mourinho said he, “smelt it” coming from the players all week and he’d tried to warn them. Whilst it is unacceptable for Manchester United players to become so easily complacent, it is partly the manager’s job to avoid this scenario from unfolding. And Mourinho didn’t.

Manchester United went from postponing the champions title celebrations in heroic style to giving City the title on a plate the next. This is unfamiliar with Jose Mourinho teams of the past. At the latter end of the season, his teams have always been masters at showing opponents no mercy.

How the Manchester United players went from such a high to such a low, could have only been down to mentality. And this is what angers Jose Mourinho the most, hence the suggested culling of his players.

Is there any truth in the rumour and which players are most likely to leave?

Potentially, yes! Mourinho has not been afraid to make big calls throughout his career or in his tenure at Old Trafford. Choosing to marginalise the likes of Henrik Mkhitaryan and Luke Shaw; it is likely Shaw will be sold too.

However, there will be some players attitudes who have been questioned before. Mourinho won’t sell players based on one poor display, but some who were already walking on thin ice may just have fallen through.

The likes of Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial could be the highest profiles to leave Old Trafford this summer. Despite Pogba’s positive performance in the FA Cup semi-final and Man Of The Match display against Bournemouth beforehand, the Frenchman you feel has had more than enough chances.

Martial doesn’t seem to be a favourite of Jose. If you are not in his good books, then you don’t stand much chance of consistent game time. Something which Martial needs in order to produce sparkling form. Despite Martial hitting back with a top performance against the Cherries on Wednesday, he was an unused substitute against Tottenham on Saturday.

Whether or not Mourinho’s response from the West Brom game was just a petulant child-like strop or a genuine warning, some Manchester United players need to step up or they will be kicked off his big red bus.
