Manchester United came to play in Saturday’s match with Swansea City. Additionally, the Red Devils dominated in possession, as well as in attack.
Romelu Lukaku made another start in the Premier League clash with the Welsh opposition. Not only did he start, he scored within five minutes of the game starting.
Lukaku’s goal could not have happened if it weren’t for Alexis Sanchez’s pass in the box. Early on, Manchester United looked the dominant side, and for much of the first half, they dominated possession.
Also, Swansea City had a difficult time breaking down United’s defense. In the first half, Swansea never had a chance on de Gea.
Before the twentieth minute, Sanchez made it 2-0 off of an error from van der Hoorn. Jesse Lingard sent the ball through van der Hoorn’s legs and found Sanchez’s feet. After receiving the ball, he placed it perfectly into the bottom left of Swansea’s net.
In the second half, the Red Devils sat back on their 2-0 lead. For the most part, United simply absorbed what attack Swansea could muster up. Overall, Swansea had a poor game, and their attack looked weak. However, they managed to challenge de Gea twice from close range, and he made both of stops.
Who performed well individually? How did United perform as a team?
Jesse Lingard, Sanchez, and Lukaku had great games, providing a lot of United’s attack. In addition, Sanchez looks much more like the man Manchester United traded for. Lingard assisted on Sanchez’s goal, and he is starting to grow more as a player each game. Furthermore, Lukaku can not stop scoring, which is great for United.
Paul Pogba looked much like the star played Manchester United invested in. He stood strong in the midfield, but also provided in the attack as well. Unfortunately, he is not where Mourinho wants him to be, but he appears to be heading in the right direction.
Victor Lindelof had a great match as well. Typically, he performs better against smaller forwards, so Mourinho took advantage of that. Also, Lindelof did not look lost on the field, like he does in the bigger matches.
Manchester United dominated possession 59% to 41%. For a change, Manchester United is the dominant possession team. United recorded 17 shots on goal, while Swansea only recorded 5.
