As the summertime approaches, so does the World Cup. Thus, international friendlies help prepare teams for the world’s biggest sports tournament.

The Spanish national team is one of many nations to play a match during the international break. Furthermore, Spain faces off against World Cup winners, Germany. Several Manchester United players also play for the Spanish national team. Which players from Manchester United could earn a other appearance for their country?

Manchester United has several players that could potentially see the pitch against Germany.

First and foremost, David de Gea is Spain’s first choice goalkeeper, so it is possible he can make an appearance for Spain. However, Spain’s match with Germany is only a friendly, so it is possible that de Gea could be on the bench. As the match is not a qualifier, Spain’s team could start bench players to rest the starters.

Of the World Cup qualifiers played, de Gea allowed only 3 goals total and losing none of the matches he started.

Also, Juan Mata could possibly make an appearance for his country. Mata is a long time national team player, winning the World Cup in 2010. While Mata is not a first choice midfielder anymore, it is possible that he could partake in Spain’s friendly. As always, Mata uses his technical skill to get in behind the defense. While Mata is not a first choice, he provides something to the national team that many do not: experience.

As previously mentioned, Mata is a World Cup winner, but he has also won a European championship. Mata earned several trophies over the years, and he could earn another as the summer approaches.

While Ander Herrera is injured, he still could impact future games for the Spanish National team.

Ander Herrera will not be making an appearance for Spain tonight, as he is recovering from injury. The Manchester United man plays a big part in any match. He can defend, as well as provide assistance in the attack. Still, Herrera probably isn’t a first choice midfielder, but he is still a Manchester United player that has plenty to offer to any team.
