Manchester United to listen to offers for Anthony Martial this summer amongst mass clear out
By Ollie Slack
According to reports, Manchester United will listen to offers for attacking starlet Anthony Martial this summer. He isn’t going to be the only player to leave Old Trafford as Jose Mourinho plans mass clear out.
The Frenchman has scored 24 goals in the Premier League so far for Manchester United since arriving in 2015. Martial has struggled to perform consistently, often being rotated with Marcus Rashford.
Juventus also seem keen on the 22-year old, rumoured to be plotting a £57 million-pound swoop [Daily Mail]. This rumour has come out at the same time Anthony Martial’s agent failed to confirm that his client would be staying in Manchester beyond this summer.
Jose Mourinho’s clear out
"“a lack of personality, a lack of class and a lack of desire.”"
The Mirror suggests Anthony Martial will not be the only player not needing his parking space at Carrington next season.
Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Marouane Fellaini are expected to be moved on. Whilst veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic will also leave alongside the retiring Michael Carrick.
The report also said, Jose Mourinho, will have a meeting with Ed Woodward to discuss new signings. As well as discussing the possibility of relinquishing Martial, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Chris Smalling.
Reaction
I don’t think all of the players listed in the report will leave. Jose Mourinho has made it clear in the past that he’s used to working with squads of 23.
Discluding Angel Gomes and Ethan Hamilton, who are yet to make an appearance for United in the Premier League this season, Jose Mourinho has a squad of 26. If Mourinho was to axe 10 players from that squad, he would have to sign an incredible seven players this summer to get up to 23.
Ed Woodward won’t be adding that many to the Manchester United squad. Jose Mourinho will have a similar shopping list to last season. The Portuguese man wanted four players last summer, he got three. I expect this summer Mourinho will want a similar amount. Just enough to take United to the next level in the positions they require.
Next: Why Juan Mata is still vitally important for Manchester United
Anthony Martial could have a bright future at Old Trafford. Juan Mata is a vital cog in this Manchester United team. Jose Mourinho must ensure neither of these two players leave the club this summer.
