Manchester United are pursuing a dream team, and Jose Mourinho looks to bolster the back line by signing Toby Alderweireld.

In the summer transfer window, Mourinho splashed the cash for Swedish defender Victor Lindelof. Despite spending so much on him, he has not performed to expectations. Mourinho is a man that pursues fast results, and now it appears that he can get fast results if Mourinho were to land Alderweireld.

Typically, Mourinho likes to pair center backs together. For example, he likes to start Eric Bailly with Marcos Rojo, or Chris Smalling with Lindelof. However, if Manchester United were to land the Tottenham defender, Mourinho could strengthen the defense immensely.

Toby Alderweireld is a strong defender that is vital to Tottenham’s success in all competitions. Furthermore, there would be big improvements to the team sheet if Mourinho were to lure the Belgian defender to Old Trafford.

In fact, Alderweireld is such an asset to Tottenham that they are asking 44 million pounds for a transfer fee. Additionally, Tottenham’s contract with Alderweireld is set to run out next year, but Tottenham have the option to extend it for another 12 months. Potentially, Manchester United could earn the defender on a free transfer. United would have to wait for his contract to come to end, though.

If Alderweireld were to land at Manchester United, Mourinho could create one of the strongest back lines in the Premier League.

In Manchester United’s back line, Eric Bailly, Antonio Valencia, and Ashley Young are all assets. Now, imagine Manchester United’s back line with the addition of Alderweireld. The combination of Eric Bailly and Toby Alderweireld could prove to be difficult for opposition to get past. Nonetheless, this plan only works if United can land the defender and Bailly can remain healthy.

In the end, this is only a rumor. While the addition of the Belgian would be great for United, it is a slim chance that the rumor could prove to be true. With a player as good as Alderweireld, Tottenham will do everything in their power to hold onto their number one defender.
