Alexis Sanchez is Manchester United’s most recent signing, but the Chilean has yet to produce for the Red Devils.

Manchester United did not show up to the Sevilla game at Old Trafford. Alexis Sanchez is a valuable player in the world football market, and he should have made an impact in yesterday’s game, but he did not.

Since his arrival at United he has only scored one goal and assisted twice. Furthermore, his only goal as a Red Devil came from a penalty. From open play, Sanchez has not yet scored. While Sanchez is a great dribbler, he is lacking a physical presence on the pitch. In the Sevilla match, he made multiple attempts to dribble up field, but he could not make it past defenders before losing possession.

Also, it is entirely possible that Jose Mourinho does not know how to play the new signing just yet. In yesterday’s game, Mourinho lined Sanchez up just behind Lukaku. However, in the game, spectators saw the midfielder line up on the left side of the field. Either way, the newest signing did not stand out amongst the starting eleven.

It is possible that Sanchez is not acclimated to the climate at Manchester United. He came to United with high expectations, and he has not lived up to those expectations. In addition, the midfielder could have lost his form for the time being.

Alexis Sanchez is a high profile player who needs to be watched when he takes the pitch.

Granted, the skilled midfielder finds himself chased by multiple defenders. When a high-profile player takes the pitch, the opposing manager does everything possible to keep the attacker under wraps.

Eden Hazard is a perfect example of this. Arguably, Hazard is the best winger in the Premier League. In Manchester United’s matches with Chelsea, Mourinho had a player dedicated to locking down the Belgian winger. It is entirely possible that opposing managers are doing the same thing with Alexis Sanchez.

Alexis Sanchez is one of few players that did not show up to yesterday’s Champions League clash. All fingers can not point at Sanchez, however, for the loss because the team itself did not play coherently. In the Premier League, Manchester United sit in second place, while Sevilla sit in 5th in La Liga. Statistically, Manchester United are the better side, even though the scoreline says differently.
