The Sanchez Issue

Manchester United fans were split by the January signing of Alexis Sanchez from Aresnal. While there is no doubting his ability on his day, the same can’t be said for the affect he has on the team.

Manchester United’s best outfield player this season has undoubtedly been Anthony Martial. With 11 Goals, 9 Assists in 36 appearances (14 from the bench), the Frenchman has proved his critics wrong and that he fully deserves his place in the starting line up. At 21 years of age it’s easy to forget just how young he really is.

The concern a lot of United fans had with the signing of Sanchez was where would he play. Most were hoping the Chilean would line up on the right hand side of a three pronged attack.

This is arguably the only position where United have no standout players. The like of Mata and Lingard can play there, but just aren’t effective as they tend to levitate towards the centre.

However this has not been the case. Mourinho has decided to instead move Martial to the right hand side, perhaps to gain experience, but more likely so Sanchez can play down his favoured left hand side.
