David de Gea has found his form as of recently, earning him praise around the globe.
From studying de Gea’s heroics in-goal, one could conclude that he is the best in the world. Yes, Manual Neuer has revolutionized the position, creating a “sweeper keeper” style of goaltending. Furthermore, this is no knock on the Bayern man, but the Spanishman has found himself in incredible form. Unlike Neuer, de Gea’s style of goalkeeping falls under a more traditional style. In a more traditional sense of goalkeeping, nobody can top the Spanish brick wall.

First of all, de Gea has incredible positioning. When watching United play, it always appears as if the Spanish international is at the right place at the right time. On multiple occasions, I have witnessed de Gea face shots going in the top corner, and he saves them all. Personally, I feel as if de Gea has no business getting a touch to the ball. Remarkably, somehow he does it.
Additionally, the 27 year-old superstar uses all parts of his body to make the save. Obviously, a goalkeeper uses his hands, but de Gea relies on his feet to make saves as well. There is no doubt that another keeper can make saves of this caliber. When he takes the field, he always impresses. Through the use of his feet, his able to save shots that should not have the slightest chance of being saved.

In addition to his acrobatics and footwork, the Manchester United man has great positioning. Often times, United’s defense becomes porous. Consequentially, he has to step up and make big saves. Somehow, the United keeper places himself in perfect positioning almost every time. In fact, he leads the league in clean sheets.
How would a de Gea transfer affect Manchester United?
If United’s number one choice
were to make a surprise transfer away from the club, United would suffer from a heavy loss. Yes, Sergio Romero is a good backup, but he is nowhere as near as good as the number one choice in-goal. Manchester United would struggle to shut teams out. There is no doubt that the Spanish keeper would be missed in Manchester.

In the end, there are many opinions out there that do not involve de Gea as being the number one keeper in the world. If there are any opposing opinions, I advise you to watch a United game. The Spanish phenom is a monster in-goal. His reflexes, positioning, and speed is something remarkable. With de Gea spending most of his career at United, he has become a fan favourite; rarely letting the ball see the back of the net.
