Manchester United returned to their four goal per game record Tuesday evening against Watford.

Three first half strikes, including a brace from Ashley Young, had Manchester United in cruise control. Watford wouldn’t go quietly, however, but a fantastic goal from Jesse Lingard would be the final nail in the coffin for the Hornets.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the match was the injury suffered by Nemanja Matic. The ex-Chelsea man has been vital for United so far this year. Any serious time missed by the Croatian could mean the Reds are in some serious trouble — again.

Ashley Young is the solution at left-back

Manchester United are in need of additional fullback help. Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw are reportedly for sale come January, and Jose Mourinho will most likely look to strengthen a position that United have been weak in for years.

More from Red Devil Armada

The 32-year old winger-turned-left-back has been marvelous for United this season. He went from surplus to crucial player in less than three months, and he’s nailed down the left-back position for the foreseeable future.

He forced an own goal-winner against Brighton over the weekend, and followed it up with a brace against Watford. He’s in the best form of his career, and he’s made United’s fullback problems less of his career and he’s temporarily solved United’s problem at the position.

Anthony Martial continues his fantastic form

Martial was granted another start in the Premier League — his fourth in a row. He didn’t let Mourinho down.

His positioning was fantastic and his rip from the top of the box gave Manchester United a three goal lead heading to the break. His turnaround from last season’s woes has been remarkable. The former Golden Boy winner has completely recaptured his 2015-16 form.

The Frenchman is undropable at the moment for Jose. He has been involved in 10 goals for the club this season — nine goals and one assist. United fans are ecstatic to have the old Martial back.

Jesse Lingard provides a moment of magic again

No other player at Manchester United can go on the Messi-esque runs like Jesse Lingard. His run and finish for United’s fourth is a contender for goal of the season and it’s not the first time he’s done something like this. Anyone remember his goal in the Community Shield last season?

He’s overly criticized by the Old Trafford faithful. An academy product that should be loved but instead he’s hated for his celebrations.

Lingard gives it all on the pitch, and he showed his worth once again Tuesday.

Watford had scored twice, dwindling the guest’s lead to just one goal. Just when it felt like the Hornets could potentially equalize, up stepped Lingard.

His magical run sealed all three points, and justified his place in the starting XI by Mourinho.

It was a hard-fought valuable win for the Red Devils. But the injury to Matic definitely dampened any celebrations. However, the great play of Young, Martial, and Lingard will help ease the pain.
