Manchester United forward Anthony Martial called up to France sqad
Anthony Martial’s performances for Manchester United have earned him a place in France’s squad for its upcoming friendlies against Germany and Wales.
Martial’s was last called-up for Les Bleus in October of 2016. However, his stunning form this season has earned himself a place in Didier Deschamps’ team.
“Anthony is a lot better because he’s making a difference in games,” the France manager said. “He’s getting back to a good level, he’s being used more by Mourinho.”
Martial has seven goals and four assists already this season, including the massive winner against Tottenham this past weekend. He’s in a fierce competition with Marcus Rashford for a starting place in the team and he’s playing better than ever before because of it.
“Marcus Rashford has been good too and the manager wants to give us a chance,” the former Monaco man said after the Tottenham win. “I don’t want to be on the bench. I want to play!“
Manchester United recently announced that Martial along with David De Gea and Chris Smalling were the candidates for the club’s Player of the Month for October award. Martial won the award in September, also.
"“He continues to be effective,” Deschamps said. “He hasn’t been in the last five or six squads. Anthony was at the Euro. He had a more difficult time after that, and he’s come back well."
Martial has been more than impressive this year. His performances have been huge when the team needed him most.
The 21-year old will look to make more his chance with the national team this time around though.
"“He came to us very young, he was with us for Euro 2016. He had a difficult period that he seems to have gotten over,” added Deschamps. “I can only encourage him to continue and make me think it over again and again.”"
Martial has completely changed his future with the club. Last season he was unhappy and frustrated. It seemed like a move for a fresh start was inevitable.
But Jose’s magic has worked on the young-Frenchman, and he’s loving life at United.
Martial started against Benefica in the midweek, and despite missing a penalty, was voted the Man of the Match.

France have a surplus of talent at its disposal, for Martial to receive a call up is telling of how well he’s played thus far. The 2015 Golden Boy is back to the level that everyone knew he was capable of reaching.
