Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus’ recent comments to GQ have alerted Jose Mourinho and Manchester United to up its’ pursuit of the German Superstar.

Reus, who is currently out with a knee-ligament injury, can’t seem to get past his injury woes, but United are willing to offer him a fresh start in England. And with the German’s contract set to expire in May 2019, Dortmund could sell for a cut-rate price.

Reus himself is open to the possibility of moving on from his beloved Dortmund, telling GQ: “There are four or five international clubs who interest me.”

"“On May 31 next year, I will turn 30. That would be my last big contract and a final opportunity to try something different.”"

Rumors have swirled of Manchester United’s interest in Reus for years, and now could finally be the time for United to make its move.

And the Daily Mail reports reporting “Jose Mourinho is monitoring Reus’ progress in Dortmund.”

Reus is one of the most dynamic wingers in the world — when he can stay on the pitch. The 28-year old has been hampered by constant nagging injuries over the past four years, but when he plays, his quality is still evident.

His injuries have cost him shots to play in the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 European Championships.

Dortmund have managed to still find success without its’ talisman in the lineup, and the timing may be perfect for Reus to leave under good circumstances.

"“I have to be honest and fair and say I don’t know where I’ll end up,” added Reus. “At the moment, I’m very happy in Dortmund and not thinking about what happens after 2019. But, of course, the time will come and then I will sit down and calmly make a decision.”"

According to Transfermarkt, Reus has a value of €30 million, down from his 2014 evaluation of €50 million.

€30 million for a world-class winger would be a phenomenal deal in today’s market, but with Reus yet to sign an extension with Dortmund, the price could drop even further should United decide to go in for him.

Mourinho was rumored to be in the market for an additional winger in the summer. The name most often tossed around was Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, but we covered why that transfer didn’t make too much sense already.

Reus, on the other hand, has more quality than Perisic. But with his history of injuries, he would need frequent rests and take games off. That would work perfectly with the young team United have built.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford could continue to get game time and develop, while stepping in for Reus when he needed a rest. The 28-year old has also played in a Champions League final, and his veteran leadership could be huge in the locker room.

Of course, this is all speculation at the moment. But Reus’ comments make this feel like it may have some substance to it. It’s a rumor we’ll certainly keep our eye on.
