Ryan Giggs: Give Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof time to prove himself
Victor Lindelof has failed to live up to expectations so far in his short Manchester United career, but don’t write him off just yet, says Ryan Giggs.
Playing a part in both goals in the 2-1 loss to Huddersfield Town over the weekend, Lindelof has come under fire from Manchester United fans. However, Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, writing for Sky Sports defended the 23-year old’s shaky start to life at Old Trafford.
“One player who has attracted a lot of criticism is Victor Lindelof but he certainly shouldn’t be written off yet.
“Some players come to the Premier League and bed in straight away and others can take six months or even a year, as it was for Patrice Evra, Jaap Stam and Nemanja Vidic, and they went on to be unbelievable players.”
The ball-playing center back certainly has the ability, which he showcased in last season with Benefica. However, the Premier League is another monster compared to the Primeira Liga.

Manchester United’s next feature at Swansea in the Carabao Cup, which would be a great opportunity for Lindelof to potentially find his feet. However, reports suggest that Axel Tuanzebe may get the nod over the Swede for the match.
Regardless of the manager’s decision, Giggs backs Lindelof to succeed.
“You win together and lose together and you can’t single out a player, especially when (Lindelof) hasn’t been playing regularly. He’s just got to knuckle down and come through this.”
Manchester United need the Swede to pull himself together, now more than ever. With Phil Jones back on the injury list, and Eric Bailly still recovering, the time could be perfect for Lindelof to step up.
